Njavara kizhi is also known as Shashtika shaali pinda sweda. Njavara kizhi is a unique treatment procedure practiced by Kerala Ayurveda. Navara rice is a medicinal rice,is said to be like gold among the rice varieties having a rich aroma and precious grains with great potentialities to develop as a health food carrying a lot of medicinal properties. The body is massaged with small linen poultices filled with Navara rice, which is cooked in cow’s milk and a specific herbal mixture. These poultices are dipped in the same mixture and applied over the whole body. The poultices are maintained at a medium temperature. After wiping the body with a dry towel, the medicated oil is applied again. The normal duration for this therapy is 14 or 21 days.
