Navarakizhi: Shashtika Shali Pinda Sweda Procedure, Benefits

Njavara kizhi is also known as Shashtika shaali pinda sweda.  Njavara kizhi is a  unique treatment procedure practiced by Kerala Ayurveda.  Navara  rice is a medicinal rice,is said to be like gold among the rice varieties having a rich aroma and precious grains with great potentialities to develop as a health food carrying a lot of medicinal properties. The body is massaged with small linen poultices filled with Navara rice, which is cooked in cow’s milk and a specific herbal mixture. These poultices are dipped in the same mixture and applied over the whole body. The poultices are maintained at a medium temperature. After wiping the body with a dry towel, the medicated oil is applied again. The normal duration for this therapy is 14 or 21 days. It is one of the most excellent form of treatment for inducing luster to the skin and nourishment for the whole body through the skin.
